CBM Fluency Test
CBM's will be administered the first week of reading in Miss Wright's class. Here you will find information on the CBM assessment:
CBM testing window- This is a test where we have students read a passage out loud for one minute. We then count up how many words were read correctly in one minute. This test is to learn about the students fluency rate. There are six dimensions of fluency:
1. Pausing- refers to the way a reader's voice is guided by punctuation
2. Phrasing- the way a reader puts words together in groups to represent meaningful units of language
3. Stress- emphasis readers place on particular words
4. Intonation- the way a reader varies the voice in tone, pitch, and volume to reflect the meaning of the text (also called "expression")
5. Rate-the pace at which the reader moves through the text
6. Integration-the way a reader consistently and evenly orchestrates pausing, phrasing, stress, intonation, and rate.
See Document for information on CBM scoring and proficiency marks.

SRI READING TEST
*Parents you have access to these scores under your "family access" account. It will be under the "Test" link on the left hand side. You will see all of the tests that your child has taken while attending RCAS.
The district has switched our benchmark reading test to the "Scholastic Reading Inventory." The "SRI" test will be given to students online. It is a computer adapting test which means that the test adapts to the students' responses. The test will step up or down a level depending on the students performance. This is to ensure testing accuracy. Lower achieving students experience less test taking anxiety because the questions are at their level. Another great feature is that this test before given asks students about their reading interest. At the end of the test, students are able to print out a list of books that are catered to their interest and reading level. The SRI will measure the students LEXILE Reading Level. To learn more about the LEXILE reading level go to the "Reading Links" at the top of the page and click on "LEXILE LEVELS!"
* This assessment is used to determine placement of students for future classes.
